Wolcott -Mr. Elton E. Mitchell age 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 1, 2016. He was the devoted husband of Ruth (Wolfe) Mitchell-predeceased.
Elton was born on May 30, 1920, in Waterbury, son of the late Archibald and Gertrude (Stephany) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School. He was a tool maker working at Polymetric Company, Mattatuck Manufacturing and retired from Scovills Manufacturing. He was a lifelong member at the M.W Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and accepted Masons of Connecticut. He was also a member of the Wolcott Lodge No 14th A.F. & A.M.
He served in World War II and received a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Metal and the Bronze Star Medal.
He was married to his wife Ruth for 68yr. Elton and Ruth enjoyed their ceramic business in Wolcott for many years. He loved doing crosswords with his family.
He leaves a daughter, Debra (Mitchell) and her husband Joe DiDonato of Wolcott, a son Elton Mitchell Jr. predeceased, a sister Vivan (Mitchell) Ospalek-predeceased, a granddaughter Michelle (DiDonato) Iff and her husband Hallan of Southbury, and a grandson Joseph DiDonato-predeceased. He was survived by two great grandsons Sean DiDonato and Hallan Iff Jr and a nephew Carl Ospalek and his wife Jackie of Waterbury.
