Elsie (Snelgrove) Farkas, 83, of Middlebury died peacefully in her sleep October 11, 2015. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street, Woodbury, CT. Visitation will be from 130 to 3 pm. Memorial service to begin at 3pm. Elsie was born the youngest of 9 children to John and Sarah Snelgrove on June 18, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT. She graduated from Stratford High in 1950. She went on to earn a degree in secretarial science from the Butler Business School. She retired from Sikorsky Aircraft in 1993 after 16 years. As a resident of Monroe for many years Elsie loved to teach Sunday school and volunteer for many committees as a member of The United Methodist Church of Monroe. Elsie was instrumental in petitioning for greater safety standards on school busing. Elsie and her husband were active within the local politics of Monroe for many years. They retired to Middlebury in 1997. She enjoyed reading, old Hollywood movies, and most of all spending time with her family. Elsie is preceded by her late husband of 62 years, Kaye Farkas; parents John and Sarah; six brothers Hubert, John, William, George, Leonard, Malcolm; and two sisters Myrtle and Elizabeth. Elsie is survived by her four loving children; son Kenneth (Susan) Farkas of New Milford, CT; daughter Karen (Larry) Johnson of Pickerington, OH; son Kevin (Meg) Farkas of Westwood, NJ; son K. Christopher Farkas of Hackettstown, NJ; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The Farkas family would like to extend their gratitude to Dariann Gatison for her love and support of their mother over the last several years.
