SOUTHBURY
First Woman Elected President of HVMA

Eloise M. Jasser, 87, died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of John P. (Jack) Jasser. Mrs. Jasser was born in New York on November 24, 1919, the daughter of William and Margaret (Grant) Slocum and was educated in New York schools. During World War II, Mrs. Jasser taught survival swimming to the armed forces and was awarded a commendation from President Truman for that service to her country.
Mrs. Jasser lived in New Canaan and Wilton, Connecticut for 23 years. During those years, she served as treasurer of the Federated Garden Club of Connecticut for five years, vice-chairman of the Wilton Republican Town Committee and was treasurer of the Fairfield County Women's Club. She was also active in Wilton's Playshop Theater Guild.
Moving to Heritage Village in Southbury in 1970, Mrs. Jasser soon became engaged in Southbury's town government. She served on the town's Zoning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and was an early member of the Streetscape Committee. In the early 1970's, she was also a member of the Southbury Republican Town Committee.
While residing in Heritage Village, she served as a trustee for Condo 6 and was also on the Landscape Committee. She volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Heritage Village Ambulance Association for 12 years and was also treasurer and stage manager for the Heritage Village Theatre Guild.
Elected president of the Heritage Village Master Association and the Heritage Village Foundation in 1990, she was very proud to have had that honor bestowed on her by the Trustees of the Heritage Village Master Association, as she was the first woman elected to that position. On December 31, 1990, at the end of her term,
she was given a commendation by the Boards of HVMA and the HVF recognizing her leadership and achievements and that "Heritage Village had flourished under her leadership". On October 8, 2003, Mrs. Jasser was honored as an original Heritage Village Pioneer and was awarded a lifetime membership in the Heritage Village Civic Association.
