Obituary

Ellen died peacefully overnight Thursday, November 1st. Despite illness she was alert, good humored, and strong-willed throughout. Her husband was by her side and cared for her every step of the way.
Ellen was born in Mineola NY on August 21, 1931 to German immigrant parents. She graduated from Freeport High School, and often swam at the famous Jones Beach. She graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial College and worked in New York City for a few years before meeting USAF Lt. Andrew Scoville of Southbury CT in August of 1953 when they were both playing miniature golf while vacationing on Cape Cod. They married on May 1, 1954 "and death did them part" 58 years and six months later. They had two children both born in the Boston area, Laura Louise born in 1955 now living in Sunderland MA, with her 3 children, and Robert Philip born in 1958 and now living in Fairfield, CT with his wife Kathy and their 3 boys.
Ellen and Andy lived for 15 years in Ellington CT where they raised their children and Ellen pursued secretarial and bookkeeping work in the 70's.
Her hobbies and sports over the years included skiing, hiking, and camping including trips to the Ruby Mountain's of Nevada. They also enjoyed sailing the North Shore of Boston and in the Caribbean including a trip in 1979 with friends where they were boarded but not harmed by Grenada rebels. After moving to Woodbury CT in 1980 her interests included playing bridge with friends, gardening, cooking and activites at South Britain Congregational Church . She was also actively involved with her grandchildren who never tired of her special recipes and Thanksgiving feasts.

Ellen was well cared for in her final weeks by her family, Waterbury Hospital, and the Watermark of Southbury whose kindness, care, and warm words about her "sweetness" comforted the family.
