IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth H.
Valentino
October 15, 1937 – August 16, 2024
Southbury- Elizabeth H. Valentino, known to all who loved her as Betty, led her life beautifully, caring and sharing insightful, sensible advice and wit with all. Even in her most serious moments, Betty's unfailing humor put everyone around her at ease, and was always at the center of the party, along with her three siblings, Anne, Linc and Walter.
Betty was born October 15, 1937, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York to Anne Dorman Hallowell and Walter Hallowell. Growing up in New York City, she enjoyed childhood summers at Breezy Point with her beloved sister and brothers. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Marymount Manhattan College in 1959, and later her Master of Public Administration from Pace University. Betty married Joseph Valentino on August 19th, 1961. It is fitting she will join Joseph in their eternal resting place, on that very day, 63 years later.
Betty's full life with Joe began with raising three children. Most of those years were spent in Pleasantville, New York, where the family made memories and celebrated many milestones. She held several jobs, most notably rising in the ranks from administrative assistant at Pace University Law School to Vice President of Human Resources for the University, traversing three campuses from the lower Manhattan, White Plains and Pleasantville offices. In her retirement, she was an integral resource for the Heritage Village Master Association in Southbury, CT where she most recently resided with Joe, near her children and grandchildren.
Betty passed away peacefully on August 16th, 2024 after a 4-year battle with cancer, fighting very hard to see Joe through his final years. She is survived by Elizabeth Valentino Dorso, Steven Dorso, Patrick Christopher Valentino, Jo Wang, Colonel Christopher Brian Valentino (ret), Anne Mickut Valentino, her grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Dorso, Dr. Madeline Anne Dorso Kelly, Alexander Kelly, Amelia Mickut Valentino, Peter Mickut Valentino, her brother J. Lincoln Hallowell, wife Joan McInerny Hallowell, brother-in-law Robert Obuck. She was predeceased by sister Anne Hallowell Obuck and brother Walter Henry Hallowell. She spent her last year in the dedicated care of her best companion, Kim Perreault.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Rd, Danbury CT, the American Cancer Society, or a cancer research charity of your choice.
