Obituary

Elizabeth "Chuckie" Black Cabler of Woodbury, CT passed away surrounded by family in the early morning hours of November 14, 2024 at 81 years old. Chuckie was born in New Orleans, LA on June 13th, 1943, and grew up in Hammond, LA, where she met her soulmate Larry in High School, who she was married to for almost 60 years. They both then attended and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. While in Louisiana, Chuckie attended Louisiana Girls State Leadership Conference and was the sweetheart of the TKE fraternity, for which Larry was the president. They then moved to Huntsville, AL, where she taught high school English, before moving to Maryland, Texas, California, and finally settling in Ridgefield, CT in the fall of 1980.

In Ridgefield they raised 2 children Cara Cabler Sawtell, and Casey Cabler. Chuckie had many happy memories during her time in Ridgefield, from running the PTA at Farmingville Elementary School, to volunteering at the Farmingville Library and Ridgefield High School. She could also regularly be seen at the baseball fields watching Casey play, or at the ice rink volunteering and watching Cara skate. Throughout her 40+ years in Ridgefield, she made many friends who became a chosen family over the years.

More recently she loved spending time with her four grandchildren and cooking many delicious meals, including her Cajun staples. She could often be found in the kitchen cooking Gumbo, while singing and dancing to her favorite music which included Broadway musicals like Les Miserables and Pippin, as well as Meatloaf, Neil Diamond, and Abba. Chuckie loved entertaining, especially around the holidays, and spending time with family and friends. She made sure her home was warm and inviting for anyone that came over, including many of Cara and Casey's childhood friends who spent so much time there.

She is survived by her loving husband, Larry, her daughter Cara and son in law Andrew Sawtell and their two children Ronan and Finley: her son, Casey and daughter in law Kelly Nardine Cabler, and their two children, Paige and Grey.

A Celebration of Life will occur in Woodbury, CT later this winter.
