Woodbury, CT - Elisabeth G. (Thiel) Stritzel, 98, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her beloved family on Saturday August 3, 2024. She was the devoted wife to the late Hubert P. Stritzel.

Elisabeth was born on May 15, 1926 in Katzen, East Prussia, Germany, daughter to the late August and Martha (Schappler) Thiel. Both of her brothers perished in WWII, while Elisabeth, along with her parents and 4 sisters were forced to leave their family home and pushed westward into northern Germany. It was there where she met and later married her husband, Hubert.

Elisabeth and Hubert emigrated to the United States with their young daughter Ursula in 1955 and settled in Brooklyn, NY, where their son Erich was born.  In 1968 they moved to Woodbury where they lived the remainder of their lives.

The family discovered their joy of the outdoors through camping, hiking, and fishing whenever the chance arose.   A woman who enjoyed the simpler things in life, Elisabeth was best known for her expansive flower and vegetable gardens, often showcasing her generous nature by leaving the vegetables she grew for her neighbors. She loved watching wildlife from her picture window, often identifying birds and occasionally spotting deer, turkey, and bears.

Elisabeth leaves behind her children Ursula Stritzel of Woodbury, Erich (Cynthia) Stritzel of Killingworth, and her two grandsons Stuart and Tristan Stritzel.
