Elinor Peterson Hurlbut 94, of Roxbury died peacefully on Friday June 5, 2015 surrounded by family at Candlewood Valley Center. She was the wife of the late Alden B. Hurlbut. Elinor was born on September 17, 1920 in New Haven, CT. Daughter of Oscar and Florence Peterson. She attended schools in Westport CT and graduated from the Merrill Business School in Norwalk. After marrying her husband she moved to Roxbury where she worked as a reporter for local newspapers. She has been a familiar face in the Roxbury Town Hall for the past 58 years. Both as Town Clerk and Assistant Town Clerk. She was a member of the Roxbury Historical Society, the Roxbury Grange, the Shepaug Club, an active member of Christ Church where she served as treasurer and the alter guild. For many years she took calls for the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department. One of her passions was writing, she kept a lifelong journal and belonged to a ladies writing group. She took great pleasure in bird watching, baking, her love of salt water and her beloved beaches of her hometown of Westport. In addition to her other endeavors she was truly the wife of a CT Yankee farmer. She was married to Alden for 53 years. She is survived by a sister Ruth of Pennsylvania and predeceased by her sister Anna Jean of New Hampshire. She is survived by her children, daughter Betsy and husband Tony Antonucci of Bantam, her son Peter and wife Elizabeth of Roxbury, and predeceased by her son Jonathan. She is also survived by a stepdaughter Gail and her husband Jim Hoolsema of Florida. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department or Roxbury Ambulance Association.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday June 10, 2015 at Christ Episcopal Church in Roxbury at 11 o'clock. Burial will be private.
