Bridgewater-
Edward Paul Niesobecki of Bridgewater passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 15, 2026.
Ed, the son of Paul and Lucy (Duglenski) Niesobecki, was born in Waterbury on July 10, 1932. He spent his youth in the North End; he attended Walsh Grammar School and Leavenworth High School where he played baseball and basketball.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with Company M 17th Infantry Regiment Seventh Division deploying heavy mortars. He graduated from Non-Commissioned Officer Training Academy. During his service career, Ed earned the Good Conduct Medal, The Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal, National Defense Medal, and Infantry Combat Badge. He participated in the Prisoner of War Exchange in Panmunjom. Following his time in the service, Ed attended Post Junior College.
Ed lived for many years in Middlebury, where he and his former wife, Louise, raised their sons. One of Ed’s greatest joys was coaching Little League Baseball and Little Pal Basketball. He also coached CYO Basketball at St. John of the Cross. Weekends spent at the MRA were a summer tradition that carried over generations. Ed was a long-time member of the Middlebury Lions Club. Ed was employed at Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) for thirty-five years; starting as a pole climber before becoming a foreman in the line department.
Ed was the happiest when spending time with family and friends. Cape Cod, the cottage in Charlestown, RI, trips to the Jersey shore provided countless opportunities to celebrate life with loved ones. Trips to NYC and traveling afar provided memorable times for Ed and Susan. Ed’s early love of sports was rekindled each basketball season when he followed the NCAA, especially UCONN and St. John’s. Ed especially enjoyed working out at the gym with his brother and reminiscing about early days in Waterbury. Ed’s smile and easygoing personality made everyone feel welcome. His unconditional love for and pride in his family will forever be cherished.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Susan, sons Paul E. Niesobecki (Watertown) and Mark R. Niesobecki (Middlebury), stepson Daniel K. Readyoff (Martha) of New Milford and stepdaughter Christine A. Steward (Randall) of Goshen. Ed was Joddy to grandchildren Stephen, Claire, Samuel, Braden, and Emma.
