Mrs. Edna Piel, 90, formerly of Grace Meadows in Southbury, passed away peacefully enveloped in the arms of her family on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Abbott Terrace in Waterbury. Edna was born in Waterbury, CT on January 12, 1923 to Robert and Edith (Booth) (Stewart) Griffin. She graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School and Waterbury Catholic High School. During her younger years, Edna was active in the Immaculate Conception Church where she volunteered her services for various church activities. After graduation, she worked for several companies until her retirement from Unisys in 1990. Her passions included her loving family, her award winning "kitties," flowers and her close friends at Grace Meadows. Edna is survived by her children, William Piel and his wife Joanne of Woodbury, Beverly Iorio and her husband Joseph of Southbury, grandchildren, William Piel and his wife Rebecca of Grafton, MA and Jessica Piel of Woodbury; great grandchildren, Lauren and Emily Piel, niece, Cynthia Griffin and nephew, Daniel Griffin. She was predeceased by her brother, Daniel Griffin of Middlebury. Edna's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful fourth floor staff at Abbott Terrace and the Xavier 3 staff at St. Mary's Hospital.

Services: A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 10 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Main St. South Woodbury. Burial will be in the New North Cemetery in the spring.

Visitation: A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North.
