Earl R. (Mac) Mehuren, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Southbury, CT on June 15, 2023. Earl was born in Montville, Maine to Harold and Doris (Brown) Mehuren on May 13, 1931. Earl was the middle child of 8 siblings. He attended Montville Center Grammar School and graduated from Walker High School of Liberty, Maine in 1949. After graduation Earl joined the US Army and began his 20 year Military career. He trained as a paratrooper at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, he was a PLF completing over 20 jumps. He re-enlisted at Fort Williams in Maine, from there he was sent to Korea in 1954 with the 7th Infantry Division. He served for 18 months in The Headquarters Company Supply before returning to the US where he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Benning in Georgia. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant and it was there that he completed 19 more jumps. Earl transferred to Texas at Fort Bliss and formed the 6th Battalion of the 59th Hawk Artillery Unit. He returned to Korea for his second tour of duty with the 6th Battalion on a naval ship, during his tour he worked with South Koreans in the use of missiles and firearms. While on this tour overseas he was also stationed in Hanau, Germany where he spent three years. Upon returning to the US he was assigned to the Nike Missile site HA-36 in Portland, CT. It was during his time in the military Earl was given the nickname of Mac, as his fellow soldiers had a hard time pronouncing his last name. He often shared it was better than when the called him Meringue. After retiring from the military, Mac opened Mac's Power Equipment in Southbury, CT. Drawing on his ability to repair small engines he turned it into a successful business. In April of 1988 he retired for a second time and sold the business which is now known as Chatfields. It was during this time of his second career, that he heard of a lawn tractor for sale, upon arriving at the house to see the tractor, he was met by a woman who would become the love of his life. Lorraine Wheeler opened the door and he was undeniably taken by her. He didn't get a tractor but gained a wife. On April 9th, 1977 he and Lorraine married and started their story together. It was a love story that would last 46 years until her passing in May of 2023. Mac and Lorraine shared a beautiful life full of travel and adventures. They were snowbirds for 27 years enjoying their home in Nacomis, Florida, where they created lifelong friendships. Their life together was full of travel with their many motor homes around the country, most memorable was a trip to Alaska. They traveled the east coast to Maine to visit family and share many happy times. Visits were full of wonderful meals, conversations and card games. New Hampshire became a second home also, where Mac enjoyed his love of snowmobiling. In later years their travels slowed and they returned to their beloved home at The Old Field condos. They had many friends there and Mac gained a group of friends who on Thursday's would play spirited games of poker for a quarter. It was something Mac looked forward to and was blessed to have a final game at his home with friends. Earl(Mac) will be remembered as a caring and generous man, with a loving heart and thoughtful blue eyes. All that knew him were blessed to call him a friend. Macs final wishes were to be with his wife and dance with her as they loved to so in their life together. Earl was the last surviving sibling, he was predeceased by his sisters, Carrie, Hazel, Esther and Edythe and his brothers Donald, Howard and John Mehuren and a half brother Clyde Brown. He was also predeceased by his parents, and loving wife Lorraine, He is survived by his treasured pets, Effie and Cocopuff, a loving immediate and extended family, nieces and nephews and special friends too numerous to mention.
