Douglas Arthur Shore

March 25, 1947 – January 23, 2026

Douglas Arthur Shore, a resident of Southbury, Connecticut, passed away on January 23, 2026, due to complications from kidney and heart failure. He was 78 years old.

Born in Mamaroneck, New York, Douglas was the youngest of four children born to the late Sanford and Eleanor Shore. Graduating from Mamaroneck High School before answering the call to serve his country. Douglas served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began what would become a distinguished, long-term career with IBM.

At the age of 22, Douglas’s life was forever changed by a severe motorcycle accident. His recovery required immense grit, but he persevered. He eventually settled in Southbury. Over the next 37 years, he led a quiet, focused life centered entirely on his family. It was here that he raised his two children, Jaime Lynn Shore and Jonathan Jay Shore, and later met his greatest joy, his granddaughter, Mia Bella Shore.

Douglas was a man who balanced a demanding life with a knack for making people laugh, keeping any situation light with his quality sense of humor. His career path took a meaningful turn when he switched from computer education to massage therapy, graduating from CCMT in Westport, Connecticut. Drawing from his own lifelong medical journey and his passion for physical fitness. Douglas was a gifted healer, with a natural ability to ease people’s pain. He had a real connection with his clients, who greatly valued the personal care he gave them.

Douglas handled his later years with incredible grace, navigating a series of health battles from bladder cancer and kidney disease to a heart attack and years of dialysis. Rather than letting these trials define him, he became a role model in how to face adversity with dignity and humor. Making friends every step of the way. Notably a true animal lover, he survived beside Calvin our family’s pet. Calvin played a role in keeping the family connected as well as showcasing Douglas’s gentle and loving side. His home in Heritage Village served as his sanctuary, where he spent his time close to family and indulged his lifelong passion for gardening. Above all, he cherished his role as a grandfather. A title that gave his life meaning while constantly bringing him smiles, laughter and light.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to:

-The supportive staff of BrightStar Care for their dedicated and warm assistance

becoming part of Douglas’s family.

-The team at Davita Dialysis in Newtown CT whose specialized care and

compassion provided Douglas with comfort and strength through every session.

-The West Haven Veterans Association where Douglas was supported medically

with honor and dignity.

A proud American patriot to the end, Douglas and his family are honored by all

who supported and cared for.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable man on his birthday, March 25, at Southbury’s Memorial Park. The service will be a tribute to a life defined by service, resilience, and an unwavering love for his family.
