Douglas Batcheller Sherman, age 78, of Bethlehem, CT, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, after a brave battle with ALS. Doug was Born on October 9, 1945, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose love and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Doug was predeceased by his father James Sherman Jr., and his mother Alice (Lowe) Sherman. He was also predeceased by his brother James Sherman III. He is survived by his sister Joy Sherman, of Fort Myers, Florida. He also leaves behind his wife Constance Sherman, his children Heather Chirumbolo and Adam Sherman, his grandson Matthew Chirumbolo, his son-in-law Randy Chirumbolo, and nieces and nephews, including Amber Evans and Stephanie Carbonneau. Doug was a family man, always putting his loved ones first and making sure they felt cared for.

Family was everything to Doug. His greatest happiness came from being involved in his loved ones' lives. Though sports weren't his personal passion, Doug's grandson Matthew was his pride and joy. He never missed an opportunity to be by Matthew's side, spending countless hours traveling to hockey rinks and baseball fields to cheer him on. Whether at the rink or on the sidelines, Doug was always there, watching with a proud smile that spoke volumes about his love and dedication.

A graduate of Kaynor Technical High School in 1965, Doug specialized in drafting and discovered his love for all things mechanical while working for a local plumber during his school years. After being drafted into the U.S. Navy, Doug honorably served in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he pursued his passion for plumbing and HVAC, eventually founding Little Town Mechanical Contractors, a business he proudly built and ran for over 40 years.

Doug was always up for a thrill and pursued hobbies that reflected his adventurous spirit. In his younger years, he loved drag racing in Naugatuck with his older brother. After meeting his wife Connie, he was introduced to skydiving through her cousins and uncles, and spent many weekends jumping from planes at Good Hill Airport in Roxbury, CT. Even after a skydiving accident in 1993 left him with injured legs, Doug's zest for life never wavered, and he shifted his focus to hot air ballooning.

Doug will be remembered for his strong work ethic, determination, and boundless love for his family. One of his favorite quotes, proudly displayed in his office, was: "Start doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible." This motto truly reflects the way Doug lived his life, always with purpose, dedication, and a desire to make the world a better place.

A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Washington, CT, at 11:00 AM on October 12, 2024. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at the Washington Club Hall. Family and friends are invited to attend. A sunset burial will be held for family at the Lakes Road Bethlehem Cemetery in Bethlehem, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ALS United Connecticut at www.alsunitedct.org.
