Obituary


Dorothy "Dot" (Green) Manville passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday May 14, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard Eric Manville Sr. Dot was born in Rochester, NY, on August 12, 1934, to the late Samuel Jr. and Dorothy (Effridge) Green.
Dot's first love was her husband and her family whom she adored and spent as much time as possible with. She loved history and genealogy spending countless hours conducting research. She enjoyed learning about the Green family history which included an ancestor being one of the first printers in the Hartford area. Her grandfather was the first doctor in the Southbury area. Her father Samuel Green Jr. was the first person to put boxed ice cream into a supermarket when he ran "Old Hundred", which later became Baskin Robbins. She was active in the Southbury Historical Society, serving as the president and secretary. Dot worked at the Southbury Training School starting there as a nurse and retiring in 1989 as the Assistant Director of Social Services. Dot was a founding member of St. James Lutheran Church and was a member of the choir. She used her nursing skills and donated her time doing health screening checkups at St. James church.
She is survived by her sons Richard Jr. and his wife Vicki, Jeffrey and his wife Barbara, and Duane and his wife Donna, grand children Duane Scott, Amber, Linda, Michael, Anna, Jeffrey Jr., and Abigail. She is also survived by her brothers Samuel Green III and wife Eleanor of Southbury, Frederick Green of Clewiston FL, her sister Marilyn Talarico of Englewood FL, her close friends Jerry Hickman and his wife Jean of Southbury, and a former AFS student Edgar Klausmann and his wife Imtroud, of Freiberg, West Germany. She was predeceased by her sister Mari Kelley of Alexandria TN.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Southbury Historical Society for the Ludorf Barn, 624 South Britain Road, Southbury, 06488 or to the American Red Cross, 228 Meadow St., Waterbury, CT 06702 or to St James Lutheran Church, 111 Peter Road, Southbury, CT 06488..

Funeral: St. James Lutheran Church

Services: A funeral service will be held at St James Lutheran Church, 111 Peter Road, Southbury CT, on Saturday May 21, 2011, at 3 pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Visitation: Calling hours will be at the Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St North, Southbury CT, on Friday May 20, 2011, from 6 to 9 pm.
