Dorothy S. Dibble

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy S. Dibble (Stamatel), a woman who was a pillar of strength and had a heart of gold. Dorothy (Dottie) was born January 5, 1929, to Stefan and Petronella (Durek) Stamatel in Stamford, Connecticut and later became a lifelong resident of Woodbury, Connecticut.

She worked at Waterbury Hospital as an office clerk for 30 years. Dottie transitioned out of this life peacefully on June 12, 2026 surrounded by her three loving daughters. Throughout her journey of 97 years she touched many lives with her wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit of perseverance.

Dottie will be most remembered for her love of family, travel, and strong faith. Her family was always the priority in her life. Her endless love shined through in countless ways. Into her early 90’s, she continued to host almost every holiday with delicious meals, fine china and polished silverware. If she wasn’t entertaining, she was traveling around the world with her daughters, sometimes with one, sometimes with two, and sometimes with all three.

She was always a faithful servant to God and others. She volunteered at the Woodbury Public Library and the voting polls for many years. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Woodbury and enjoyed hosting the annual Christmas house tours. She was also a dedicated parishioner of Saint Teresa of Avila Church for over 50 years. She belonged to The Women’s Guild and typed the church bulletin in the 1960s. 

She is survived by her loving children, Kathleen Kabbai and husband Gary of Bethlehem, CT, Kathleen‘s brother-in-law Kevin Kabbai of Woodbury, CT, Susan Chamberlain of Merrimack, NH and Cynthia Dibble of Narragansett, RI. She also leaves behind three grandchildren Tauxsin Ashwin of Orlando, FL, Melody Kabbai of Washington, D.C. and Hunter Kabbai of Bethlehem, CT. In addition, she is survived by her nephew, Gary Lutterman and his wife Janis of Wellfleet, MA., as well as her great nephew Stephen Lutterman of Newmarket, NH. She is predeceased by her brother Anthony Stamatel and sister Mary Lutterman (Stamatel).

Visitation will take place Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home located at 2 School St. Woodbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 A.M. held at St. Teresa of Avila Church located at 146 Main St. S. Woodbury, CT. Burial will follow services at Old North Cemetery Woodbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Woodbury Public Library at 269 Main St. S. Woodbury, CT 06798 or to the Prince of Peace Parish at 494 Main St. S. Woodbury, CT 06798.
