Dorothea Margaret (Cooper) Bartlett, 91, of Wallingford, formerly of Woodbury, died Friday September 16, 2011 in Meriden at the Mid State Hospital. She was the wife of Harry William Bartlett . Mrs. Bartlett was born November 27, 1919 in Waterbury, daughter of George L. and Margaret (Reed) Cooper. Mrs. Bartlett graduated Leavenworth High School in 1937 and Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. During World War II, Dorothea worked as a Red Cross nurse and surgical nurse at Waterbury Hospital. She was the Bethlehem School nurse and public health nurse from 1965-1970, and was the Woodbury School nurse from 1970-1984. She was a member of the CT Association of School Nurses, the Woodbury Community Nurses Association, the Woodbury Community Services Association and the Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Association. She was also a volunteer at Waterbury Hospital, the Red Cross Bloodmobiles, and Pomperaug Health District clinics
Before moving to Wallingford, Mrs. Bartlett was a long time resident of Woodbury. There, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church since 1958 where she served on the Board of Deacons, taught Sunday school, led Brownies and Girl Scouts, from 1960-1970, and was a long time member of the church and hand bell choirs.
Dorothea enjoyed life to the fullest with her family at home and while camping, skiing, traveling and boating. She played tennis throughout her life and took part in the CT Senior Games. Dorothea will be remembered as a fun-loving, energetic, compassionate and serving person by her family friends and patients.
Besides her loving husband of 69 years of Wallingford, formerly of Woodbury, she is survived by sons Bruce Bartlett and wife Gail of Anacortes, WA; Richard Bartlett and wife Janna of Nobleton, FL; Robert Bartlett and wife Heidi of Watertown; daughter Cynthia Bartlett Book and husband Paul of Northfield, MN and 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother Gordon Cooper of FL; brother-in-law Russell Bartlett of AL and sister-in-law Clare Jean Maxwell.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Book of Remembrance of the First Church of Woodbury, P.O. Box 346, Woodbury, 06798 or to the Woodbury Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 481, Woodbury.
Cemetery: New North Cemetery
Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury
Services: Memorial services will be held at a later date and private graveside services will be held in the New North Cemetery, Woodbury.
