Donald Francis Hartmann died Sunday, December 8, 2024 in Danbury Hospital. Donald was born on May 22, 1940 in Mount Vernon, New York to Catherine Roche and Matthew Hartmann. His sister, Geraldine was born four years before in June 1936. He was schooled at the Parish of St. Catherine's in Mount Vernon and then went on to the Franciscan Seminary in Lowell, MA. As a junior he left the seminary and attend Archbishop Stepinac High School for two years graduating in 1959. He enlisted in the Coast Guard after graduating and was on active duty in Cape May, NJ for six months and in the reserves for eight years.
He worked for Consolidated Edison Electric Company for 38 years before retiring in 1998.
He married Elaine Locuratolo, daughter of Joseph Locuratolo and Elvira Ciaffone on December 2, 1961. The had two sons, Kevin, and David. They resided in Brewster, NY for over 35 years before moving to Cape Cod, and lived in Brewster, MA for 11 years.
Don was very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Chatham, MA; using his boat for patrols and watch standing at the Coast Guard Station. He loved telling stories of his time on Cape Cod.
He moved to Woodbury 14 years ago. He was very involved in his church; St Teresa of Avila as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Men's Club. He also started a ministry of adult altar servers for funeral masses.
Besides his wife and sons, he is survived by 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was married to Elaine for 63 years and leaves his beloved dog Abby who was always nearby.
A funeral mass at St. Teresa of Avila Church and internment at Mount Olivet in Watertown took place earlier this December.
