Southbury, CT - Donald Edgar Farquhar, 90, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the River Glen Healthcare Center in Southbury.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Mary (Earhart) Farquhar; his daughter, Susan Liebel and her husband, David, of New Fairfield, CT; his daughters, Cynthia DeLong of Boonton, NJ, and Nancy of Ridgewood, NJ; three grandchildren, Griffin, Ruby and Ella; and many close friends.
Born in Queens, NY, the son of S. Edgar and Myrtle (Smith) Farquhar, he was a longtime resident of Leonia, New Jersey; later relocating to Morristown, NJ; Washington, NJ; and most recently to Southbury, CT.
After graduating from Olney Friends School in Steubenville, OH in 1940, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Signal Corps until 1946. Mr. Farquhar graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, IN, in 1948. He met his wife, Mary Sue Earhart, at college and they were married on June 25, 1950.
An avid hiker and environmentalist, he was a lifelong supporter of the Sierra Club, Appalachian Trail Conference, and The Nature Conservancy.
