Donald G. Cutcomb, 88, died peacefully at home on May 5, 2013, surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 29 years, Erica Bachelle-Richie, his daughters, Susan Ruscitto of Southbury, Paula Anne Cutcomb of Barkhamsted, and a son, Steven D. Cutcomb of Mt. View, CA. He also leaves two step-children, Robin Mazzola and Peter Richie, as well as three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In 1942, at age 18, Don was called into the military, where he went to Primary, Basic and then Advanced Flight schools and graduated into the Air Force, during which time he flew in the Berlin Airlift. He achieved the rank of Captain as a pilot, flying in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After his Honorable Discharge from the service, Don flew commercially for a variety of airlines, finally retiring from Flying Tigers. An avid golfer, Don played courses all over the world with his flying buddies including Scotland, England, Germany, India, Japan and Switzerland. He lived in Southbury for over 50 years with his family and friends, surrounded by the fields and nature that he loved so much.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Disaster Relief, CT Chapter, 1 Plymouth Place, Milford, CT 06460.
Location: Munson-Lovetere Southbury
Services: A memorial service will be held Friday, May 10 at Noon at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North.
Visitation: A wake will be held Thursday, May 9th from 5 - 7: 00 pm and Friday, May 10th from 10 to Noon at the funeral home.
