Obituary


Mr. Donald Mitchell Boardman, 89, died May 2, 2012 in Southbury, CT. He was born on May 16, 1922 in Colombia, Tennessee to Frank C. and Jane (Elam) Boardman. He was educated at Danbury High School, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and earned an MBA from Colombia University. He shared a 49 year marriage with the late Laura Mali Boardman.
As a member of the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops with the US Army, he served his country in Italy during WWII. After the war, he remained in the Army Reserves until he retired in 1969 as a Major. He was an avid skier well into his mid-80s and was inducted into the Vermont Ski Hall of Fame in 2003. After working for Marchant Calculation Machines in the 1950s and 60s, he worked as a stock broker in Danbury, Connecticut for 25 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Weston, Vermont, to a home he had built for his family. After living there for many years, he returned to Connecticut, residing at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Jane Rizzacasa of Massapequa, NY, and Susan Purves of North Granby, CT, their spouses Dominic Rizzacasa and Douglas Purves; his grandchildren, Ryan, Thomas, Daniel, Nicholas, Robert and Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind many dear friends.

Funeral: Old Parish Church

Services: A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday May 10th at Pomperaug Woods 80 Heritage Rd., Southbury, CT from 2: 30 to 4: 00 p.m. in the Garden Room and also on Friday May 18th at 2pm at the Old Parish Church, Route 100, Weston, VT.

Visitation: There are no calling hours.
