Obituary

Diane Marie Capossela, 76, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was born on April 4, 1950, in the Bronx, New York, to Howard Zior and Lorraine Thompson.

Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She shared 55 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Anthony Capossela, building a life and family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Diane had a generous and selfless spirit. She was someone who instinctively put the needs of others before her own, often sacrificing her own wants and needs to make sure the people she loved were cared for. She gave of herself without asking for recognition, and her family always knew they could count on her.

Although Diane was quiet and often happiest keeping to herself, she had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went. People were naturally drawn to her warmth and genuine nature. She never needed to be the loudest person in the room to leave an impression. Her kindness and sincerity made people feel comfortable around her, and many who crossed her path became friends she treasured.

Diane was the loving mother of Jennifer Rotunda, Amy Fairbairn, and Tony Capossela III. She was a proud grandmother to Emma, Julia, Miranda, Lily, and Honor, and cherished each of them deeply. She was also a beloved sister to Susan Melnyk and a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many dear friends. Her love for her family and friends was expressed not only in words, but in the countless things she did for them throughout her life.

Raised Roman Catholic, Diane attended the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula and later attended Westchester Community College. She spent many years as a homemaker, dedicating herself to her family, and later worked as a dental office manager.

Diane found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life. In her earlier years, she enjoyed needlepoint, creating things with patience and care. She loved animals and had a special place in her heart for every pet she welcomed into her life, including Max, Spooky, Snooky, Crackers, and Blue. She especially loved feeding the birds in her yard, with hummingbirds being a particular favorite. She also loved the beach, and Narragansett, Rhode Island, held a special place in her heart. Many peaceful moments were spent in her swing chair on the deck with a cup of tea, enjoying the outdoors and the little things that made her happy.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on September 9, 2026 at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home in Southbury. The burial will be private at the State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Diane’s memory to Whiskers Pet Rescue in Southbury, Connecticut.
