Obituary

Once upon a time, there was a little red headed baby born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 16th in 1950. Her parent's Grace and Samuel Harper stood there in amazement at this little girl, with her skin as white as snow and peach fuzz hair that grew as red as a cherry. They called her Deborah Grace. She had a heroic knight , her older brother, Thomas Harper, to help protect her as she grew up in their castle, in Monroe, CT. She received her coven training at Masuk High School in Monroe, CT in 1969. Performing summer solstice dances with the butterflies and birds to ensure never ending summers.

Deborah spent seven decades fighting evil dragons who threatened her loved ones; utilizing Twizzlers to help save the universe and protecting her children and grandchildren, abandoned animals and many foster children along the way. Debbie was affectionately known as Red, lovingly coined by her late son-in-law Kevin. Later becoming "Mimi the White" after an heroic and brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Deborah "Debbie" Grace Harper Hurd, passed away on October 21, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her coven sisters and those who loved her dearly. She was 74 years young. It was a shit ass ending for a wonderful person who didn't deserve such a tragic trilogy ending.

On May 2, 1970 Debbie married her prince, Benjamin Smith Hurd, driving off towards their future, to a life filled with two beautiful children, Joann Susan Hurd Hanson and Benjamin Samuel Hurd. Living in Bridgeport, CT after Ben came back from the Vietnam War and settling in Southbury, CT in 1972.

Debbie had a zest for life and an unbeatable spirit. Debbie loved dancing, listening to her favorite latin lover Pitbull, and cranking the music to a deafening volume. Debbie was a lover of animals and selfishly rescued many throughout her life. Later in life she was known as Mimi, because who wants to be called grandma!

Debbie was an avid gardener and birder with a love of bluebirds and hummingbirds. They will miss her smorgasbord of birdy delights. Debbie enjoyed her walks with friends and all those that knew her cheeky personality loved her company. Most of all she loved her two granddaughters, Hazel Grace Hurd and Linden August Hurd. They were inseparable. She loved them to the moon and back.

Sadly, as Debbie is greatly missed here on earth, she is united with her son Benjamin, son-in-law Kevin, brother Tommy, and parents Grace and Samuel on the other side. We know they are celebrating her arrival with Kevin's margarita's and her favorite espresso martini's! She leaves behind her husband Benjamin Smith Hurd, daughter Joann Susan Hurd Hanson and partner Brian Valeria, granddaughters Hazel and Linden Hurd, daughter-in-law Christine DeCrescenzo-Hurd, stray daughter Andrea Dibner and husband Gerard Orozco, dearest friends Brenda Stevens, Cheryl Jones, Sandy Blum, and Helen Hennessey, and a special shout out to her Florida crew. We want to thank those friends, Pat Valeria, Jeanette Risko and Theresa Sporko for their unwavering help and support throughout Debbie's illness.

It was Debbie's wish to forgo formal services. Upon her death, Hazel performed a fairy burial for the fairy queen that Mimi was in all her glory. If your family, you know how we roll. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to feed some birds and plant a garden in the spring. And as Red would say "to those too lazy or physically unable", make a donation to the Audubon Society at www.audubon.org.
