ROXBURY- David G. Stearns, 73, of 135 Davenport Road, died suddenly on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-nine years, Carol Dwyer Stearns, recently retired research scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals; his daughters, Diana Voiles of Fayetteville, NC, and Alida Cooley of Ontario, NY; a brother, John N. Stearns of Stamford, CT; a sister, noted author Annabel Stearns Stehli of Roxbury; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves a cherished brother in-law, Peter H. Stehli of Oyster Bay, NY, and sisters-in-law Anne D. Colgan of Baldwinsville, NY, and Connie Drath Dwyer of Washington, DC.
Mr. Stearns was born January 4, 1933, in New York City, the son of the late Walter C. Stearns, Jr., and Claudia Hatch Stearns. He graduated from Pomfret School and Columbia University, with honors. He was the President of Quicksilver Claims Service and a resident of Roxbury for twenty years. A member of the Heritage Village Country Club, he was a championship golfer. In addition, he won many bridge tournaments, was a top-ranked backgammon player and an expert at poker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having enlisted during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Stearns was known for his extraordinary sense of humor and extravagant generosity of spirit. He will be deeply mourned and missed by his family, friends and associates.

Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury
Services: A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on November 10, 2006, at 11 A.M. at Christ Church Episcopal, 4 Weller's Bridge Road, Roxbury. Friends and family are welcome to gather in the Parish House after the service for a collation.
