Mr. David R. Smith, 73, of Woodbury died Wednesday September 29, 2010 at Waterbury Hospital after a brave battle with cancer. Known affectionately by all in town as "Smitty", he was born April 24, 1937 in Waterbury to the late Robert C. and Zillah (Hoxley) Smith. A lifelong resident of Woodbury, he was the owner of Western Auto for many years. He also became a licensed Pilot in the 1970's.
He is survived by his beloved longtime companion and caregiver, Patricia Sobocinski of Woodbury, a son Thomas Smith of Waterbury, a daughter Jean Tucker and her partner Glen of Pennsylvania, a brother Robert J. Smith and his wife Frances of Woodbury, who in addition to being his sister in law, had also been his reliable transportation these last few months as his illness progressed, 2 grandchildren, Samantha Smith and Andrew Tucker, a nephew, Ronald J. Smith and his wife Claudia, a great niece, Heather and a great nephew, Joshua. He was predeceased by a nephew Robert J. Smith, Jr.

Funeral: North Congregational Church
Services: A funeral service will be held at North Congregational Church, Woodbury on Monday October 4th at 10am. Burial will follow in New North Cemetery, Woodbury with full military honors.
Visitation: Friends may call at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 2 School St., on Sunday October 3rd from 4 - 8pm.
