Obituary

Southbury- Christopher Phillip Hughes, 64, known to friends and family as Duffy, passed away peacefully after a long illness on September 19th, 2024.

Duffy was born on June 18th, 1960 in Wisconsin to Marilynn and Richard Hughes. The family eventually settled in Southbridge, Massachusetts, where Duffy thrived in High School. A star athlete, he played baseball and football, and played in the school band.

A lifelong love of music began and Duffy loved it all, except Disco. He played bass in Not The Beatles, a tribute band that performed throughout Massachusetts. If buying and trading guitars is a hobby, Duffy was an enthusiastic and passionate follower. Always on the lookout for a Gretch or Les Paul, he was a regular at many of the local guitar shops. Duffy's other passion in life was his beloved Red Sox. One of the highlights of his too short life was attending the first game of the 2004 World Series, and the celebratory parade when the Sox won the series after a long drought.

Duffy had a 36-year long career at FedEx, where he worked as a dispatcher until his retirement in 2022. Dedicated to his job, he "bled purple "and received many accolades and awards during his career. Duffy loved animals, and was particularly attached to his dog, Jolene.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 26 years, Karen, and his two daughters, Brandy and Gretchen. He adored his granddaughter, Lilly. He will be immensely missed by his brother Michael and his wife Paulette, and his brother Richard and his wife Bernetta. Duffy was predeceased by his parents and his beloved sister Missy. Duffy also leaves a brother-in-law Hani, and many nieces and nephews for whom he was the fun Uncle.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for his family. The family would also like to thank the staff at River Glen for their compassionate care. To leave an online condolence please visit munsonloveterefuneralhome.com.
