Cheryl Gay Allen Smith, born on June 2, 1946, passed away peacefully after a long illness on March 8, 2026, at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. She was the loving wife to William H. Smith and the late Joseph V. Audino. With a heart that radiated warmth and kindness, Cheryl was the embodiment of caring, strength, and grace, always impeccably put together—right down to the signature red lipstick she wore until her last days.

A talented full-charge bookkeeper, Cheryl dedicated her life to her career, working for various companies in Stamford before taking her success a step further by becoming the proud president of her own venture, East Coast Construction. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly, not just in business, but also in the design of her own home in Newtown, Connecticut—a testament to her creative vision and practical expertise.

Cheryl was one of 7 children to the late Meyer C. and Mildred (Kriewald) Allen. She attended Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut, where her strong foundations laid the groundwork for a life filled with accomplishments and cherished memories.

Outside of her professional life, she found joy in tending to her garden and admiring the beautiful blooms she worked so hard to care for. Cheryl was undoubtably an excellent cook, taking pride in feeding her family and loved ones whenever she could. Whether it was attending tag sales or indulging in the vibrant culture of New York City with her daughter, Cynthia, and her sisters, each adventure added excitement to Cheryl’s life. Travel was another passion, particularly to her home in the Dominican Republic, where she created countless beautiful memories. Ultimately the time she spent with her family were the happiest for Cheryl.

Besides her husband William, Cheryl leaves behind her beloved daughter, Cynthia Audino Karney, as well as several nieces and nephews who will forever carry her legacy of love and kindness. She is preceded in death by her 6 dear siblings—Jeanne Fowler, Joyce Fraser, Robert Allen, Bernice Camp, John Allen, and James Allen.

As we remember Cheryl Gay Allen Smith, we celebrate a woman whose life was an inspiring blend of professionalism, family devotion, and boundless warmth. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the fortune to know and love her.

A private service will be held in Windsorville Cemetery, Broad Brook, Connecticut on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. To leave an online condolence, please visit, munsonloveterefuneralhome.com.
