Charles J. Seewald of Chestnut Grove, New Milford Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 7th at the age of 97. Son of the late Charles G. and Mathilda (Stehli) Seewald, he was born on August 8, 1915 in Queens New York. Charles was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School and Pratt Institute, School of Fine and Applied Arts, majoring in advertising design. During his career, he was employed by J.C. Penny, the Hearst Advertising Service and by the Diamond Art Studio in New York City. He was the Advertising Production Supervisor at the Housatonic Valley Publishing Company in New Milford from 1971-1975. Throughout the years Charlie enjoyed a secondary career as an instrumental musician and vocalist. A former Eagle Scout Charlie enjoyed golf and bowling and was a loyal and avid fan of the New York Yankees and the UCONN Huskies basketball teams.

Mr. Seewald served in the United States Army as an artillery officer with the 83rd Infantry Division and saw combat in Europe during the Second World War for which he received five battle stars. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve at the rank of Major and was a member of the Retired Officers Association and the 77th Infantry Division Association.

Charles and his wife of 61 years, the late Alice (Boyle) Seewald, moved to Connecticut from Valley Stream New York in 1969 and resided in Bridgewater, Falls Village, Southbury and New Milford CT. In Falls Village, Charles was very active in town affairs by serving on the Board of Finance and Assessors, the Fire and Jury Commissions and as the Justice of the Peace. While living at Heritage Village in Southbury, he served as a volunteer with the Ambulance Association, the Civic Association and provided posters for many Heritage Village activities. Charlie will be missed by his close and special friends and for all who provided friendship and assistance during the time he resided at Chestnut Grove in New Milford.

Mr. Seewald is survived by his daughter Judith Remsen, son-in-law Norman Remsen, their children Glenn and Dawn, by his son Richard, daughter-in-law Carol Van Evera, their children Luke, Benjamin and Molly and by seven great grandchildren.
