Obituary

Carol Hampton, RN, passed away September 18, 2009, after a courageous battle with a reoccurrence of brain cancer. She was 48.
Carol was raised in Shelton, CT , where she attended St. Lawrence School, and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull , CT , where she was a member of the National Honor Society. In 1982 she received her Bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut.
Having survived a childhood brain tumor herself at the age of twelve, Carol was driven to help others and worked for many years as a neurology nurse at St. Raphael's Hospital.
The family is grateful to Father Bob and Sister Marilyn and their wonderful, compassionate ministry at St. Teresa's Church, Woodbury and to Drs. Dennis and the late Susan Spencer, at the Yale School of Medicine, for their many years of care.
Proud of her devoted children, Carol regularly attended their games and concerts. All three cared for their mother at home before her recent stay at CT Hospice.
Her family is grateful to all the members of her church, community, and the Connecticut Hospice staff, as well as to her dedicated childhood girlfriends, Pat, Terri, Mary and Mary Beth, who tended to her and her family during her last days.
Carol is best remembered for her warm smile, and as a wife and devoted mother who cherished her family and close friends above all else. Throughout the years she greatly enjoyed spending time with her large family at gatherings, on camping and RV trips with her family, and going to the beach. For Carol, happiness was a slice of her mom's homemade apple pie. When younger, she was very active and enjoyed sports. In addition to playing on the basketball team during grade school, she often challenged her brothers to many competitive events. She was also a lifelong avid reader, often spending her quiet moments with a favorite book.
Carol is survived by her husband of 22 years, Edward Hampton of Woodbury, CT, and by her three children Matthew, Jennifer, and Christopher, as well by her parents, Joseph and Ruth Mancini of Shelton, CT, and her Aunts, Eunice Bossi of Bristol, CT and Ann Molumphy of West Haven, CT. She also leaves behind five siblings and their families: brothers Joseph Jr., Mark, and Michael; sisters Susan and Joanne; her nieces Erin and Nicole; and nephews Michael Jr., Daniel, and Joseph III and her mother in law, Virginia Hampton of Milford, CT.
