Ericson
March 4, 1931 – June 13, 2009
After a 6-month struggle against bile duct cancer, Carol Ericson died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday, June 13, 2009. Carol was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 4, 1931, the daughter of Donald E. Hanson and Jean Peabody Hanson. Her family moved to Hartford, CT in 1947. She graduated from the Oxford School in West Hartford, CT in 1949, and then went on to Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, where she earned her BA in Economics in 1953. She was initially employed as a research analyst at the Life Insurance Agency Management Association in Hartford, but in late 1953 Carol married Charles M. Ericson, then on active duty in the U.S.Navy, and moved to Norfolk, VA with her husband. She returned to Groton, CT in 1955, when her husband was reassigned to submarine duty there. Leaving the Navy in 1957, Carol and her family moved to Bloomfield, CT. Subsequently, her husband's industrial career involved further moves to Pittsburgh and Sharon, PA, St. Petersburg, FL, Madrid, Spain, Telford, England, and eventually to Woodbury, CT in 1986, which was then her home for the rest of her life. During her 23 years in Woodbury, Carol finished raising her family of 6 children, cared for her invalid Mother-in-Law, and became a strong supporting volunteer at the Red Barn Thrift Shop at the First Congregational Church.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, her daughter Anne E. Farragher of Hermitage, PA, and her 5 sons : Carl F. Ericson of Amherst, MA; Drew Ericson of Tallahassee, FL; David H. Ericson of Woodbury, CT; Dr. Donald M. Ericson of Bountiful, UT; and Benjamin J. Ericson of Brookline, MA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and her brother, Rev. D. Bruce Hanson of Waltham, MA. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Jean Hanson Stolzenberg.
