Carl H. Serus, 63, of Oxford, died peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Marilyn DeBisschop Serus. Mr. Serus was born February 10, 1946 in Norwich, son of Carl J. Serus of Norwich and the late Mildred Drabik Serus. He graduated from the University of Connecticut, Class of 1969, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Mr. Serus was the administrative assistant to the first selectman of Town of Oxford. He started working for the town in 1988, serving also as the finance director. After a short retirement, he was the finance director for the Town of Beacon Falls and then returned to Oxford to continue there in his current position. In the early 1980's, Mr. Serus co-hosted a radio talk show with Dean Pepin, on WADS 690 in Ansonia. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and watching Boston Red Sox baseball games. He was a huge fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball Team, attending several of their games, including their Final Four appearances in the NCAA basketball tournaments. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Mr. Serus was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oxford. In addition to his father and loving wife of 38 years, he is survived by a son, Kevin Serus and his wife Meredith Luddy of East Bridgewater, MA; a daughter, Elaine Baran and her husband Anthony of Clifton Park, NY; two sisters, Linda Holubesko and her husband Alan of Norwich and Peg Serus of Chester; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Serus, Katrina and Gabrielle Baran.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that friends honor Carl's memory and his wishes through donations to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 421 Oxford Road, Oxford, 06478.

Services: A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, May 6 at10: 00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church 421 Oxford Road, Oxford. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Oxford.
