IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Candace A.
Romano
June 3, 1948 – July 15, 2024
Candace A. Romano, affectionately known as Candy, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home of Southbury on July 15, 2024. She was the wife of 56 years to George P. Romano. Candy was born June 3, 1948 in Bridgeport, CT., the daughter of Charles and Clair (Pauline) Chagnon.
Candy was a kind and compassionate person with an infectious smile. Always willing to help anyone in need. She maintained a close friendship with Barbara Barto, Barbara Stango, Roberta O'Neil, and Roberta Hardt as well as many others.
Candy was educated at local schools and graduated from Masuk High School in Monroe, in June 1966. This was where Candy and George met and began their long relationship. After moving to Watertown, she furthered her education with an associate degree in accounting from Naugatuck Valley Community College and attained a bachelor's degree in business administration from Post College.
Candy worked full-time as a dispatcher for the Town of Watertown while attending school and raising a family. She then started her banking career as a teller and retired as an auditor with a local credit union. Candy had an entrepreneurial and artistic side. She loved to bead and sell the jewelry she created. She also enjoyed selling Tupperware and Longaberger Baskets.
One of Candy's most precious moments was the birth of her granddaughter, Anna Romano. Anna was the apple of Candy's eye. She would say, "Now I have someone to pass on my cooking and baking recipes too. Now I have someone to buy dresses for."
She is survived by her husband George, her two sons, Thomas (Marie) and Anthony, and her granddaughter, Anna. Candy is also survived by her brother, Kevin (Beverly) Chagnon, Aunts Youlanda, Carmella and Lois, sister-in-law Kathy (Richard) Lucey, nieces, Nicole, Caitlin (Ryan), Kathleen (Alberto), Shannon (Bobby), nephews, Michael (Marisa), and Brian, as well as great nieces Maggi, Olivia, Stella, Jessy, Aubrey and Charlotte. Candy was predeceased by her sister-in-law Margaret Chuckta.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Brandywine Assisted Living in Litchfield, CT., and The Lutheran Home of Southbury, CT. for their loving care of Candy.
