Burton G. Nichols, 89 formerly of Woodbury died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Xavier 3 Hospice Care at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by family. Burton was the devoted and loving husband of 69 years to Rachel F. (Boisvert) Nichols. He was the son of Burton Miles Nichols and Hazel Gabriel Duff. Burton is predeceased by a twin sister, sister Jeannie Wheeler of New York and sisters Blanch Burns and Agnes Donato of Georgia.
Burton was a committed father to Theresa Cleaver and Richard Cleaver of Woodbury, Harry Nichols and Katherine Bates of Florida, Larry Nichols and Peggy Nichols of East Haddam, Arlene Quattro and Michael Quattro of Watertown. Burton's second family included members of the McLean family of Naugatuck. He was also the grandfather to 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Burton began delivering Western Union Telegrams by bicycle and then became employed at The Clock Shop in Waterbury where he met his wife, Rachel. Burton received his trade skills as a tool and dye maker from Scovell Manufacturing in Waterbury. After a long employment history, Burton retired in a Foreman position from Verjune Manufacturing in 1985. Burton and Rachel spent many fun filled years laughing and loving each other and traveling together enjoying the wilderness and beautiful beaches.
Burton's favorite past times included woodworking, gardening, golfing, bowling, and spending special time with his wife and family. He loved to laugh and make the most of life. He will be missed dearly.

Services: Funeral 8: 45 a.m. Monday, September 26 from the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St. to Church of the Nativity, 48 East St. Bethlehem for a mass at 10: 00 a.m. Burial will follow in New North Cemetery, Woodbury.
Visitation: Calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere.
