IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bruno
Sterling
December 20, 1935 – September 2, 2022
Woodbury - Bruno Sterling, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 2, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Uta M. Sterling.
Born on December 20, 1935 in German occupied Poland, the son of the late Paul and Augusta Sterling. It was a hard life living through World War II as a child, first in German occupied Poland then in Germany. While in Germany, Bruno found an apprenticeship at a bakery to become a baker. In 1957, Bruno and Utah ventured to America, the land of milk and honey for opportunity. When they settled, they joined the German Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manhattan, NY.
Bruno's baking talents paid off when he found work in America at Thomas' English Muffins. He then went on to be a cleaner at LaGuardia Airport for New York Airways. He found his first super job in Astoria, then moved to the Bronx managing a 40-family building, then to Sunnyside and Forest Hills, managing a 150-family complex. Once he brushed up his skills, he ventured to Manhattan and was tasked with maintaining a building at 90 West St. From there, he moved on to 237 W. 14th St., running a building for Union Local 237. After retiring in 2000, they moved to Connecticut to enjoy the golden years.
Bruno always kept busy with multiple jobs to provide for his family. He had a huge heart and was always willing to share the shirt off his back or invite someone for a meal; a favorite of his was a good steak on the grill. You knew you arrived when you were sharing steaks with him. After being blessed with a huge family and teaching us all that we were blessed, his big heart finally gave way to congestive heart failure and wore him down to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. He was the perfect Christian, forgiven, and God was always tugging on his heart as a work in progress. He is finally at peace and celebrating in heaven with all his loved ones there. God has brought him home. Well done, good and faithful servant!
Besides his wife Uta, Bruno is survived by his son Peter (Cathy), Christel Brusca (Michael), Eva Biereder (Michael), Barbara Buckley (Christopher), His siblings Karl, Lili, Hildegard, his 9 grandchildren Brian M. Sterling (Kristy), Christine Sterling, Kimberly Grubbs (Joshua), Stacey (Tom Miller), Mark Brusca (Amanda), Zach Brusca (Jhadyne), Jennifer (Coty Knight), Joey Biereder (Emily), and Joshua Buckley, and his 11 great grandchildren Noah, Micah, Zachariah, Naomi, Hannah, Leah, Peyton, Brantley, Jaxon, Eliza, Everett. Bruno is predeceased by his siblings Josef, Anna, Paul, Edward, August, Hedwig, Gustel, Renate and his grandson, Andrew Michael Biereder.
