It is with profound sadness yet immense gratitude that we announce the passing of Brian Robert Higgins on Saturday July, 11, 2026. Born on May 30, 1952, in Boston, MA. Brian, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully left this world, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. He will be cherished by all who knew him, especially his beloved wife Joanne Higgins, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage.
Raised in Greenlawn, New York, Brian experienced a wonderful and joyful childhood, often remarking this was the best time of his life. An esteemed fiber optic engineer, Brian dedicated many years to research and development, contributing significantly to his field. However, it was his zest for life that defined him. Brian had an unwavering love for nature, often found exploring the great outdoors, hiking, and enjoying long walks. He had a passion for travel and a deep appreciation for music, relishing in the joy of singing along to his favorite tunes. His quick wit and infectious sense of humor brought smiles to many; it is a gift that will be dearly missed.
Brian and Joanne created a beautiful life together, moving to Oxford, CT in 1986, where they raised two remarkable daughters, Caseyanne Higgins-Poopor and her husband Jeff, and Shannan Higgins and her husband Christopher D'Amore-Chasse. In 2017, they made Southbury, CT their home.
Brian’s greatest joy came from his family, particularly his six beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Liliana, Carson, Brielle, Owen, and Carter, who were the twinkles in his eyes. He also leaves behind his siblings Neil and wife Cindy, Robert and wife Georgeann, Kevin and wife Peg, Sheila Scalia and husband Kevin, Kathy Mason and husband Paul, and sister-in-law Claudia Higgins, all of whom will carry forward his memory with love. Brian was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert and Gloria Higgins and his brother Dennis.
Join us as we celebrate Brian’s vibrant life on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, located at 910 Main Street South, Southbury, Connecticut. Let us gather to hold each other close as we remember a remarkable man who brought so much joy to our lives.
In lieu of flowers, please considering donating to the American Cancer Association, an organization that was near to Brian’s heart.
