BETTY JANE MICHAELS

Betty Jane (BJ) Hall Michaels of Woodbury, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. She was the wife of the late Richard (Dick) W. Michaels.
BJ, the daughter of Marvin and Julia (Frazier) Hall was born in Fulton, NY on March 24, 1925. She attended the Immaculate High School in Watertown, NY and Becker College in Worcester, MA. Upon graduating from college, she moved to New York City to live at the Barbizon Hotel for Women and worked for five years as a model for the famous designer, Sophie Gimbel, at Saks Fifth Avenue. In 1947, Betty Jane met Dick Michaels on a blind date. He knew immediately he was "going to marry that girl." They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2008.
As a mother of five, BJ Michaels, an only child herself, was extraordinary. She exuded warmth, kindness, and love every day of her life. She and Dick raised their five children in Woodbury, living there for 40 years until moving to Southbury in 2000. She enjoyed playing golf and tennis and especially loved spending time at their home in East Orleans, MA with her husband, children, grandchildren, and frequent visitors. One of her favorite places to be was sitting on the deck overlooking the views of the ever changing Nauset Marsh. BJ looked forward to Cape Cod summers and busy Naples, FL winters filled with family and friends.
BJ was involved with the Junior League of Greater Waterbury for many years and volunteered throughout Waterbury and Woodbury for numerous worthy causes. She also worked part time at the Bee's Nest and the Square Peg stores in Woodbury.
The family would like to thank mom's devoted care-giver over the last six years of her life, Janice Naczi, as well as her many, many friends. We would also like to thank Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT for their passionate care to our mom and family; and Maplewood in Newtown, CT for their care and support for our mom over the past year and a half.
BJ is survived by four daughters and one son: Dale Michaels Wade and Peter of Eastham, MA, Patti Michaels Gramse and Reed of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Karen Hall Michaels of Waterbury, Jyll Michaels of Middlebury, and Richard H. Michaels and Laurie of Woodbury; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
