Betty J. Getty, 86, of Plantsville, formerly of Bethlehem for over 55 years, died Saturday October 27, at the Summit at Plantsville. She was the widow of Russell D. Getty.
Betty was born October 19, 1921 in Montclair, New Jersey, daughter of the late Ralph E. Sr. and Elizabeth P. (Thatcher) Smith.
Betty was devoted to her family and had a very generous spirit. She gave selflessly to others and rarely thought of herself. She was particularly fond of her nieces; B.J., Jan, Lauren, Chris and Judy; and her son-in-law Bob. She excelled at many crafts and was an avid gardener, long-time member of the Garden Club and was president for a number of years. She believed in service to her beloved town of Bethlehem. She was a charter member of The Bethlehem Land Trust and was the treasurer for many years. Betty worked diligently with the Friends of the Library and was a long-standing member of the Old Bethlem Historical Society. She was a postal clerk for the Bethlehem Post office and retired after 16 years of service. She is survived by a son Donald R. Getty of Gatlinburg, TN a daughter Ann L. Getty and her husband Robert Berube of Meriden, two sister's in law Annette Mengel of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and Shirley Smith of Brewster, MA and Sante Fe,NM; three step granddaughters and five nieces. She was predeceased by a brother Ralph E. Smith Jr

Services: A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3 at 2: 30 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 2 School St. Burial will be private in Bethlehem.
Visitation: Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 1: 00 p.m until the time of the service.
