SOUTHBURY- Miss Beth Spencer Atwood, 72, of Southbury, died September 3, 2008 at her home.

Miss Atwood was born October 1, 1935 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Russell Burdett and Helen (Richards) Atwood. Beth lived in Southbury throughout her childhood. She graduated from Southbury High School and from Wh.eelock College, Boston. Beth taught in the elementary level for a short time. She enjoyed helping children to read.
She then worked for the Weekly Reader (a publication for children). Much of her time she resided in Durham until returning to Southbury five years ago. Miss Atwood was an avid reader and loved animals including cats and wild animals.

She leaves three cousins, Janice Magnoli of Washington Depot, CT, Donald Koonz of Orange City, FL and Eleanor Vivian Galli of Cranston, RI.

She was predeceased by her sister, Judith Atwood Grandahl.
