Barbara Lois Linane Trosan passed away peacefully at home in Woodbury CT, on August 22nd, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in Bridgeport, CT on December 12th, 1931, to her father William Linane and mother Mary Agnes (Lipovsky) Linane. Barbara was the second born of three children.
Barbara graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1949. Barbara married Joseph Trosan on September 7th, 1953. After marrying, they moved to an apartment in Stratford CT before relocating to Sandy Hook in 1957, where she went on to raise 8 children. In 1969 Barbara went to work as a secretary at St Rose Catholic School in Newtown CT. In 1972, Barbara worked in the First Selectman’s office as his secretary, in the town of Newtown CT. In 1976 she joined the Sandy Hook bowling league at Brookfield lanes with the teamname “Aces and Jokers”. She went on to work for Perkin Elmer/ Raytheon until her retirement in 1993. Before retiring she and her husband had a house built in Port Orange Florida in 1990, officially relocating in 1993. Barbara enjoyed spending her time in Florida volunteering at Daytona International Speedway and the local thrift store. When she wasn’t volunteering, you could find her painting, drawing, baking, watching cooking shows like Martha Stewart, taking walks on the beach searching for seashells, or picking flowers from her husband’s garden to press. She loved spending time and teaching her grandchildren how to draw, paint, and even how to play blackjack and penny rummy. Barbara always made sure to hand paint holiday and birthday cards for everyone. If there was one lesson Barbara would want everyone to know, it is “train the brain to forget the pain”.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Trosan (2016), her parents William Linane (1978) and Mary Agnes (Lipovsky) Linane (1994), Her brother William Linane Jr (1997), Her sister Bernadette (Linane) Hussy (2020), her sons Michael Trosan (2020) and William “Bill” Trosan (2017), and her son-in-law Charles Shepard (2023).
Barbara is survived by her children, Robert Trosan, Donna (Willie) Shanks, Barbara Jo (Joseph) Vaiuso, Sharon (Lewis) Eaton, Richard Trosan, and Kathy Shepard. Barbara is also survived by her daughter-in-law Marje Trosan (wife to the late Michael Trosan), 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 4th, 2026, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral home, 2 School St, Woodbury, CT 06798. The burial will take place on September 5th,2026, at 9:00 am located at State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457.
