Barbara (Thomson) Odendahl of Venice, Florida, and Bethlehem, CT died peacefully at home on Monday, February 29, 2016. Born in New Rochelle, New York November 12, 1939, she was the daughter of John and Anna (Pinto) Thomson. She graduated from New Rochelle High School. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Florence Carroll of Lagrangeville, NY and her brother John of Venice, Florida.
Barbara leaves her beloved cat, Phoebe, and her companion Pat Famiglietti of Wolcott, and four children: Barbara (Jack) Moran of Bethlehem, Susan Long of Camarillo, California, William (Sophia) Odendahl III of Trumbull, Connecticut, Matthew (Rebecca) Odendahl of Amsterdam, NY, along with eight grandchildren-Sean Moran of Bethlehem, Kate (Daryl) Connolly of Norwalk, CT, Barbara and Sara Long of Camarillo, California, Catherine and Christina Odendahl of Trumbull, and Anthony and Warren Odendahl of Amsterdam, NY.
She also leaves many extended family members and dear friends.
As a young mother of four with a full time job she put herself through the LPN program at Kaynor Technical School, then went on to graduate from Mattatuck Community College with an RN degree. She worked as a nurse for many years, then as a Medical Transcriptionist before her retirement.
The family would like to recognize and thank the community of the First Church of Bethlehem and the Reverend John Pelletier, Father Joseph Looney of the Nativity Parish of Bethlehem, the dedicated and compassionate staff at Northwest VNA, as well as Dr. Zhongqiu John Zhang and his staff at Alliance Medical Group, and Dr. Victor A. Chang and his staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital. You all shared much light and kindness, love and compassion with Barbara and us, her family. We are eternally grateful.
Memorials: Donations may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (www.ovarian.org), Northwest VNA (www.vnanw.org), or a local, non-profit animal shelter.
