Barbara Farrell Benson, age 93 of Southbury, CT passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 at her residence. She was born on May 19, 1931 in Hartford, CT. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Stuart M. Benson, her five children, Kimberly (Michael) Blaszczak of Woodbury CT,  Stuart M. (Diane) Benson, Jr. of East Longmeadow, MA, Tracey (Scott) Sniffen of Naples FL and Chatham, MA, Robert (Laura) Benson of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and Douglas (Paul Dassenko) Benson of Sharon, CT and Palm Beach FL, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Barbara graduated Hartford High School and Middlesex Nursing School becoming a Registered Nurse in 1953. She worked in nursing for over 30 years, especially enjoying pediatric and geriatric care. After retiring from nursing, she became an antiques dealer, adopting the name "Mad Hatter Antiques" so that she could indulge in her love of antique china and crystal. She was an amazing cook and baker who loved to entertain family and friends and always did so, memorably. She was an avid reader, prolific knitter, enthusiastic traveler, inveterate shopper and enjoyed trying the best restaurants wherever she went. She also adored time spent on the beach during her decades of summers at her home in Chatham on Cape Cod. Along with her husband, she was a great supporter of UCONN Basketball, especially the women's team. She baked cookies and birthday cakes for the team members for years and hand delivered them to campus even in snowstorms. She is mentioned by name in Geno Auriemma's biography for her passionate support of the team. She was greatly loved and led a very fulfilling life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held by her family on May 17, 2025 in Southbury, CT.
