IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Audrey
Vonwettberg
June 10, 1921 – October 20, 2008
Audrey vonWettberg, an avid doll collector and cat lover, formerly of Oxford, CT, died peacefully on October 20, 2008 at Eliot Healthcare in Natick, Massachusetts. She was 87.
Audrey was born in North Conway, New Hampshire and graduated from Mount Saint Dominic's Academy in New Jersey. She was also a graduate of Pratt Institute in New York and took courses at the Grand Central School of Art. After graduation, she did cartoon painting in New York before marrying her first husband John Giordano.
In the 1960's, she started her own company, Cheyne Display, which specialized in making dolls for department stores. She met her second husband, Probate Judge Bishop vonWettberg of Oxford, Connecticut, at a display show in New York and they were married several years later. Audrey lived in Oxford for over thirty years where she volunteered her time for a number of worthy causes. She was always surrounded by cats and built a doll museum in Oxford that she dreamed of opening to the public. It was certainly a site to behold.
Audrey lived in Massachusetts for the last four years and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Plack of Atlanta, Georgia, her son John Giordano and his wife Gabrielle of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and her son Joseph Giordano of Robeline, Louisiana. In addition, she leaves behind six grandchildren: Nicholas, Adam and Isabelle Giordano of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Katie Zuzzo of Highland Park, New Jersey, Joseph Giordano of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Elizabeth McLaughlin of Winnfield, Louisiana. Finally, she is also survived by two great grand-children: Paige Zuzzo and Tyler (TJ) Giordano.
