IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Audrey Jean
(Alenius) Sharpe
April 18, 1934 – March 10, 2025
Audrey Jean Alenius Sharpe, born April 18, 1934, and a longtime resident of Woodbury, CT, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Donald Everett Sharpe. Audrey was immensely proud of the large family she and Don created, often carrying pictures of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to share with others.
She is survived by her daughter Liisa Aria Hostetler and her husband James Wesley Hostetler of Thompsons Station, TN, son Randall Albert Frye of Villa Park, IL, and daughter Aili Christine Wachtel and her husband Gary K. Wachtel of Inlet Beach, FL. Audrey is also survived by her beloved stepdaughters Carrie Sabetta and her husband Al Sabetta of Northford, CT, and Julie Sczerbinski and her husband Peter Sczerbinski of Davidson, NC; her grandchildren Christine Aria Hostetler and her husband Joel Daniel Phillips of Tulsa, OK, Jenny Kathryn Janssen and her husband Reagan David Janssen of Boise, ID, Alex James Hostetler and his wife Courtney Brianne Hostetler of Spring Hill, TN, Rebecca Sabetta, Ethan Sabetta, Sophie Sczerbinski, Mia Sczerbinski, Amelia Dorothea Wachtel, and Max Everett Wachtel; and her great-grandchildren, Calvin Alex Hostetler, Reese Anne Hostetler, Bailey James Hostetler, and Finn Ellis Phillips. Audrey also leaves behind several dear and close friends by whom she will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her parents Arvid Allan and Gertrude Anna Alenius, and her brother Arvid Endwood Alenius.
Music was a passion of Audrey's, and for 40 years she took great pleasure from singing with the Waterbury Chorale (where she was able to convince Don to join as well, lending his strength as a bass to the men's section). Along the way, Audrey and Don also had a swing as members of a square-dancing group, which was a wonderful source of great fun and exercise. As an active member of South Britain Congregational Church, she engaged in Bible studies, the knitting group, helped prepare for the area's popular yearly Apple Festival, and of course sang in the choir. Personally, her Finnish heritage was a point of great nationalistic pride. Professionally, Audrey had been a secretary and a medical transcriptionist (and was duly proud of her impressive speed at the typewriter).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at South Britain Congregational Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to South Britain Congregational Church, 693 South Britain Rd., South Britain, CT 06488.
