Southbury- Arthur "Art" G. von Holtz ,83, of Southbury, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on January 3, 2025. He was the loving husband to Judith von Holtz for 61 wonderful years.
Art was born in Bridgeport on January 10, 1941 to the late Theodore and Hilda (Schwarz) von Holtz. Following his education in local schools and a semester at the University of Bridgeport, Art served proudly in the United States Army from 1959 until being honorably discharged in 1962. Art married the love of his life, Judy in 1963 and soon after began their family. They had 2 beautiful children, Deborah and Douglas.
After his time in the Army, his dedication to serving his community continued when he entered the Connecticut State Police Academy in 1963. He graduated with a Criminal Justice degree from the University of New Haven, and went on to serve 25 years in the Connecticut State Police, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. After retiring from the State Police, Art took on the role of Commander at the New Milford Police Department.
Art's love for community and connection extended into other organizations such as the Southbury Fire Department for over 51 years, the Masonic Lodge, entering as a teen, and as a Boy Scout Leader for many years in Southbury Troop 60.
Left to cherish his memory, is his devoted wife Judy, his daughter Deborah Sakocius, his granddaughter Heather Sakocius both of Waterbury, CT, his son Douglas and his wife Holly of Easton, CT.
