Arthur Oshins, 93, of Heritage Village in Southbury, Connecticut, passed away on July 10, 2026. He was born on February 17, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, to Ben and Sadie Oshins.
At age 18, Arthur moved with his parents to Long Island City, Queens. He attended the City College of New York (CCNY) for two years before serving in the United States Army for two years. With the support of the G.I. Bill, he continued his education at New York University (NYU), graduating in 1956 with a degree in Journalism. That same year, he married his beloved wife, Joan, then a student at Mount Sinai Hospital’s School of Nursing.
Arthur and Joan began their life together in Queens before moving in 1969 to Co-op City in the Bronx, where they raised their three children. Arthur worked in public relations at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, while Joan served as supervising nurse at Mount Sinai Medical School’s Student Health Service.
A resident of Heritage Village since May 2001, Arthur was deeply involved in the community. He served as chairman of the Democratic Club, was a member of the Southbury Democratic Town Committee, Vice President of the Civic Association, and a Condo Trustee. He was also a devoted participant in the Morning Current Events Discussion Group, which his family said he often described as his favorite community activity.
Arthur will be remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; his children, Ellen (Jim) Thompson, Robin (Mike) Cosgrove, and Michael (Patty) Oshins; his grandchildren, Nicole (Sean), Eric (Amanda), Scott (Katie), Zachary (Sky), Jaclyn (Zack), Kelly (Isaiah), Connor (Ariana), and Carli (Eric); and his great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Naomi, and Na’Ziyah. He was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Kristen.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:00AM at B’nai Israel Temple Southbury, 444 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488.
