Artemis Tatamanis Romell , age 96, peacefully passed away on February 14, 2025 surrounded by her devoted family. In 1954, Artemis was engaged on that exact day, Valentine's Day, to her beloved husband Michael.
She resided in Longmeadow, MA for 28 years and then lived in Amherst, MA for 30 years with her husband Michael Romell. In 2016, Artemis and Michael moved to Heritage Village in Southbury CT. Artemis' husband, Michael G. Romell passed away on July 17, 2021. They were married for 67 years.
Artemis was born in Springfield, MA on October 2, 1928. She graduated with Honors from the High School of Commerce, Class of 1946. She was the office manager of the Ford Motor Company/Springfield, MA. She pursued a music career and graduated from the Springfield Conservatory of Music and was a faculty member teaching piano. She studied Piano privately with Marion Jensen and Voice with Margaret Hill Sarno. Artemis studied Voice at the Hartt School of Music/Hartford, CT.
Artemis began her choral singing with her dear friends Alzira and Irene Ribiero in the Harry Kellogg Acapella Choir, Springfield, MA. She was a Charter Member of the New England Greek Orthodox Federation of Boston. She continued to teach privately and performed in many vocal & piano solo recitals. She was an 80-year member of the Tuesday Morning Music Club of Springfield, MA, where she performed as an Alto Soloist. She was a substitute music teacher for 40 years in Massachusetts Public Schools. Artemis was a Charter Member of the Springfield Symphony Chorus where she sang for 42 years. She was a member of the Commonwealth Opera Company in Northampton, MA where she performed many productions under Maistro Richard Reccia.
In 1977, Artemis and her husband Michael were founding members of the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow, MA along with 11 other couples. She served as Senior and Youth Choir Director. Prior to her affiliation with St. Luke, she was the Music Director, Organist and Chantress at the Cathedral of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Springfield MA. She received the Clergy Laity Award in 2006 from the Greek Orthodox Diocese in Boston.
Artemis served as past President of the Amherst Women's Club/Amherst, MA and past President of the Daughter's of Penelope/Springfield, MA. She was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church/Danbury CT.
In 1955, Artemis began studying Art at Bay Path University/Longmeadow Mass with Artist Jack Flynn and at UMASS/Amherst with Professor Richard Yarde and Professor Bill Patterson.
She was an award winning member of the National Academic Art Association; the Springfield Art League; the Deerfield MA Valley Art Association; the Chatham Art Center/Cape Cod; Tobacco Valley Art Association; Associate Member of the NE Watercolor Society of Boston/MA; Brush and Pencil Club of Heritage Village, Southbury CT & the Society of Creative Arts/Newtown CT. Artemis enjoyed donating her paintings to many organizations, church events, charitable fundraising socials and giving paintings to her family and friends.
After moving to Heritage Village/Southbury CT in 2016, she was an active member of the Heritage Village Theatre Guild, Women's Club, Monologue Group, Musicale programs and the Joy of Singing Events.
She leaves her loving Daughters and Son: Connie Hebert and husband David Hebert /Chatham, MA; George Romell and his wife Christina, Fort Myers, FL: Diane Millas and husband Stephen Millas/Danbury CT; and Michele Romell/Fairfield CT. Artemis respected her family and admired them dearly and was so happy to have lived long enough to see them all as successful exceptional adults, parents, grandparents, humble Christians and patriotic citizens.
She leaves behind and adored her beautiful TEN Grandchildren: FIVE Great-Grandchildren and one Step-Great Grandchild. Her joy was spending time with them teaching family stories, piano, singing songs, gardening, sharing recipes and the Greek language & traditions.
Her Grandchildren are: Tiffany Hebert Dickey and her husband Rev. Fr. Jason Dickey/Sherman CT ; Gabriel Hebert and his wife Erin/Wakefield, MA; Daniel Hebert and his wife Kunjisha/NY,NY; Thomas Millas and his wife Stacie/Nashville, TN; Michael Millas and his wife Caitlin/San Francisco, CA ; Michael "Mickey" Romell/Rochester, NY; Emma Romell/Buffalo NY; Anna, Sophia, Stephanie Harovas/Fairfield CT .
Her Great Grandchildren are: Joseph, Elijah and Marina Dickey/Sherman, CT; Nora Grace Millas /San Francisco, CA; Darcy Hebert/Wakefield CT and Step-Great grandson Harrison Ward/Rochester, NY.
She thanks her nephews, nieces, cousins and their families for their love; Louis Kertiles, Hope Mongeau, Annie Polaski, Kathy Korchari, Harriet Austin, Diane DePrang, Peter Romell, Vanna White, Panorea Pavloglou, Evangeline Jones; her God-daughters Maria Margaris Bird and Elaina Themistos; and her 1st cousin Ignatius Pechulis and his wife Betty.
She thanks her many friends and neighbors for sharing her life with love, music, art, celebrations, humor and kindness.
Artemis was pre-deceased by her parents Gabriel and Anna Tataminis/Springfield, MA – who both immigrated from the Island of Lesvos, Greece in the early 1900's; her sister Chrisanthe Kertiles and her brother-in-law Paul Kertiles/Westfield MA; her parents-in-law George and Konstandina Romell "Roumeliotakos" of Sparta Greece; her Aunt and Uncle Panorea and Ignatius Pavloglou; her Uncle Costas Pechulis and Aunt Roberta Pechulis; her sisters-in-law Elaine Demopulos and Venetia Romell; her brother-in-law Peter Romell; her cousins Captain Rev. George Paulson, Peter Paulson, and Vasilios Pavloglou.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, with a short service beginning at 6:45pm, at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. North, Southbury, CT 06488. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, 25, 2025, at 9:00am at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, CT, followed by a burial in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
