Obituary

Armand Lucien Dubé© of Roxbury, formerly of Heritage Village in Southbury, died Sunday, April 20 at his home. Mr. Dubé© was born in Norwalk, CT, of an old French-Canadian family. His progenitors on both sides were born in 1631, exactly 300 years before his birth in 1931. Mathurin Dubé© was born in 1631, on the Isle of Orleans, Quebec, Canada. Pierre Thibodeau, his mother's progenitor, was born in France and settled in Port-Royal, Acadia, the same year. The Dubé©s were Norman French and bore the title Comte, du be` de la Garonne. Mr. Dubé© was sent documents by the former consul-generale of Monaco, Mr. John Dubé©, who served in this capacity under their Serene Highnesses Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco until his retirement. Mr. Dubé© graduated from Merrill Business College in 1949. In 1951, he graduated from the Traphagen School of Fashion, in New York City, receiving his diploma in interior design. He apprenticed in fabric and wallpaper showrooms before moving to B. Altman's Department Store on Fifth Avenue as junior designer. Subsequently, he apprenticed to Lea D. Epstein on Park Avenue from 1953-1954 and David Leston on Fifth Avenue from 1954-1955 as assistant designer. Upon leaving Manhattan and returning to Fairfield County in CT, Mr. Dubé© and his associate, Michael Richards opened a series of design studios and did the antiques show circuit. They toured throughout Connecticut, Boston, New Jersey, New York and Long Island. For 34 years, from 1958-1992, the firm, known as Richards and Dubé© Associates, did design commissions for Fairfield County residence and corporate interiors. The team accepted assignments as far a field as Key Biscayne, FL; Bromley, VT; Baltimore, MD and Houston, TX. Among their contract interiors were many Fortune 500 Companies. Mr. Dubé© was active in the CT chapter of the A.S.I.D., the American Society of Interior Designers, from 1971 to 1985 where he served as a board member, newsletter editor and vice-president. He had articles published in the Fairfield County Magazine, Weston Forum, Norwalk Hour, Country Home and Garden. Pictures of his interior designs were published in House Beautiful Colonial Homes, Home Remodeling, Fairfield County Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Country Living and Modern Office Procedures. After retiring in 1991 from more than 45 years in the field of design, Mr. Dubé© spent his time volunteering and lecturing and assisted at an art gallery in Ridgefield. As a panelist, he lectured and gave demonstrations with Jane Nylander, Wendell Garrett, Doris Leslie Blau and Michael Friedman. From 1995-1996 he was the voluntary public relations chairman for the Heritage Concert Society, Heritage Village. Mr. Dubé© volunteered as a docent-guide at the Glebe House and Gertrude Jekyll Gardens in Woodbury and served as a training consultant for new docent prospects. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodbury. He is survived by his companion of 56 years, Michael Richards; his sister, Marcelle Braisted of Boca Raton, FL

Services: Funeral services will be held Friday, April 25 at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 294 Main St. South, Woodbury. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk.
