Mrs. Annunziata Calabretta
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother & Great Great Grandmother

Southbury (formerly of Waterbury) - Mrs. Annunziata 'Nancy' Calabretta, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. She was able to spend her last week at home surrounded by her loving family celebrating the Christmas Holiday. She resided with her daughter Marie Sinopoli. She was the loving wife of the late Antonio Calabretta for 56 years. Mrs. Calabretta was born on March 20, 1914 in Satriano, Calabria, Italy, daughter of the late Pasquale and Mariangela (Basile) Battaglia. Nancy immigrated to Waterbury on Dec. 21, 1954 with her Husband & children being one of the first families to arrive as an entire family together.

Her family was her life, she was the caregiver for multiple generations. She loved to garden, knit, cook, bake & loved to sing. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Southbury.

She is survived by her children, Josephine (Giuseppe) Matozzo, Peter (Lucy) Calabretta both of Waterbury, Marie (predeceased Giovanni 'John') Sinopoli of Southbury and Pat (Barbara) Calabretta of Watertown. A predeceased daughter Mariangela Calabretta of Italy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Barbara (Fran) Durante, Nancy Addona, Anthony (Lisa) Calabretta, Jo-Jo (Pat) Capobianco, Teresa (Dom) Troiani, Rosemary Matozzo, Vince (Rachel) Sinopoli, predeceased Tony Sinopoli,(his surviving wife Lisa), Michele (Brian) Nicarry, Angela Sinopoli, Stacy (Gayle) Calabretta-Rek. Great grandchildren Stephanie (Victor) Melendez, Lisa (Bill) LaPlante, Michele Addona, Joe Durante, Joey & Paige Carusello, Patrick & Sarah Capobianco, Erica, Felicia & Michael Troiani, Tyler Calabretta, John, Elizabeth, Vinny, Victoria, Martina, predeceased John Anthony, Anthony Robert & Silvana Sinopoli. Bodhi & Bija Nicarry, Kai Calabretta-Rek. Great great grandson Chase LaPlante.

Nancy is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her twin brother at birth in Italy. Antonio Battaglia of Waterbury, Mariantonia Battaglia of Italy, Concetta (Battaglia) Migliarese, Teodoro & Giuseppe Battaglia all of Argentina.

Funeral: Sacred Heart Church

Services: A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.910 Main Street South, Southbury.

Visitation: Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Church in the daily chapel on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
