Obituary

Woodbury - Amelia Janatka, an extraordinary woman whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many, will be remembered for her remarkable journey through life. She peacefully departed this world on December 28, 2024, in Southington, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity. Amelia Janatka was born on March 31, 1925, in Sewell, Chile, to the late Manuel and Blanca Oyanadel. Her upbringing in the lively city of Santiago instilled in her a passion for culture and artistry that would flourish throughout her life. In 1957, propelled by opportunity, she and her then-husband, Vladimir Janatka, a Mechanical Engineer, journeyed to the United States, where they created a wonderful life filled with adventure and growth. Amelia was the proud mother of four children: Dagmar, Vladimir "Teddy," Karel, and Nadia. Though her marriage ended in the late 60s, she and Vladimir remained steadfast friends, a testament to her grace and warmth. A trailblazer in both the technical and creative worlds, Amelia held an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Waterbury State Tech College and worked in Circuit Board Design. Her creative talents extended to the realm of fashion, earning another Associate Degree in Fashion Design from Florida University. Outside of her professional achievements, she immersed herself in sculpting, painting, and quilting design, continually exploring new forms of expression. Amelia possessed a zest for life, evidenced by her passion for dance. A skilled flamenco dancer, she captivated audiences on stage and in radio theater during the vibrant 50s. Even well into her 90s, she embraced ballroom dancing, sharing joy and laughter on the dance floor. Amelia's life was a tapestry woven with creativity, resilience, and love. She touched the hearts of family, friends, and acquaintances alike, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her. There is no doubt she was quite the lady!
