Obituary

******DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES SERVICES FOR ALICE HAVE BEEN CANCELED*******

Alice G. Friscia, 88, passed away on January 30, 2023. Alice was born January 22, 1935, in Bayside, New York, the daughter of Pauline (Ruzbarsky) and Hector (Gianinni).  She graduated from Bayside High School and received an associate's degree in secretarial studies at Grace Institute in New York City.  Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband, Basil J. Friscia, in 1997, whom she had met when they both attended the same elementary school.

In 1961 Alice and Basil moved their family to Danbury, Connecticut, where they became known for their community involvement.  Alice worked for many years at Pitney-Bowes in Danbury, where she liked to say that she 'outlasted' seven bosses.  While employed at Pitney Bowes she formed close friendships that endured even after she retired.

A devout Catholic, Alice was a member of St. Joseph's Church of Danbury for many years.  She loved to read and was a member of the New Fairfield Senior Center's book club until she moved to Southbury in 2020.  She enjoyed harmonizing with her father-in-law and singing songs from Broadway musicals with her daughter.  Cooking for family and friends brought her joy.  After she was widowed, Alice continued her love of travel, including a visit to Sydney, Australia where her granddaughter was studying.

Alice was never afraid to speak her mind. She was strong and resilient, keenly interested in the world around her.  Most of all, Alice had a sixth sense of when someone needed her support and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joseph P. Friscia.  She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Robert Van Akin, her granddaughters, Katherine Van Akin of Richmond, Great Britain, Mary Van Akin (and husband Dan O'Keeffe) of Fairfield, CT, Michelle Van Akin of Washington D.C., Jennifer Friscia of Syracuse, New York as well as her grandson James Friscia and her daughter-in-law Leslie Friscia of Torrington, CT.  She also leaves behind her great-grandson, Henry Paul O'Keefe.

Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's hospital, a charity that Alice supported for many years. To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit www.munsonloveterefuneralhome.com
