Obituary

Algird Joseph Brazauskas, 83, formerly of Woodbury, passed away on 6-19-2014 at Bethel Health Care in Bethel, Connecticut. Algird was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on October 4, 1930, the son of the late Matthew P. and Mary (Alanskas) Brazauskas. He was the youngest of three children. Algird married his wife Shirley (Robertson) in 1955.
In 1948, he graduated valedictorian from Marianapolis Academy in Thompson, Connecticut. Algird received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut in 1953 and was a member of Iota Nu Delta fraternity.
Algird began a long and successful career in 1955 with Summit Corporation of America located in Thomaston, Connecticut. In 1989, after 34 years of service, Algird retired as president of Summit Corporation. Algird loved classical music. He was an accomplished pianist who played with sensitivity, feeling, and from his heart .He had a passion for gardening and art. Algird enjoyed spending his vacations on the beautiful rocky shores of the Maine coastline. He had a great love and compassion for people and a genuine concern for the happiness of others. His selfless devotion to his family and friends, along with his warm personality and his great sense of humor will always be remembered.
Algird is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Brazauskas; along with five children, son Karl (Joyce) of Woodbury, Ct., daughter Eve (Charles) Walton of Mason, Ohio, son Matthew (Wendy) of Woodbury, Ct., daughter Karen Brazauskas,(Fritz von Mundorff) of Southbury, Ct., daughter Julie of Southbury, Ct.; eight grandchildren, Dr. Karissa Brazauskas,(Dr. Jonathan Goldman), Erik and Alexa Brazauskas, Emily and Margo Walton, Gabrielle Brazauskas, Micah Petillo, and Maya Brazauskas; a sister Mary M. O'Connell of Simsbury, Ct., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Algird was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Brazauskas.
The family's heartfelt thanks goes to the staff at Bethel Health Care Center who provided compassionate care and became a second family to Al over the past 4 years.
A private burial will be held at Calvary cemetery.





Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodbury Bethlehem Community Music Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 820, Woodbury, CT 06798-0820.The foundation supports music for children in region 14 and brings music to the local communities.

Services: A memorial service will be held honoring Algird on July 1, 2014 at 10: 30am at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street, Woodbury, Connecticut.
